The municipality of Villa Unión, Mazatlán, reported at least one roadblock this afternoon on the main access road to the town, after a semi-trailer truck was set on fire and used to block the road, preventing vehicular traffic.
These violent acts are believed to be related to the security situation in the state of Jalisco, where the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” was killed.
Initially, roadblocks with burning vehicles were reported in the state of Nayarit, specifically on the Mazatlán-Tepic highway, a key route for the region.
Information about similar roadblocks in the municipalities of El Rosario and Escuinapa began circulating on social media, although there has been no official confirmation from authorities so far.
Minutes later, the situation was also reported in Las Salvias, part of the Villa Unión district, as well as on the main boulevard of this community located south of Mazatlán.
The Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat officially reported that two road blockades were registered in the southern part of the state on February 22, 2026.
According to the report, one of the blockades occurred near Tecualilla, in the municipality of Escuinapa, and has already been cleared. The second occurred near Villa Unión, in the municipality of Mazatlán, and was addressed immediately by the Inter-Institutional Group.
Authorities recommended avoiding the area and following the instructions of security personnel, who remain on site and will only be issuing information through official channels.
They also urged the public to use the 911 emergency number responsibly and reminded everyone that 089 is available for anonymous reports.
