The Government of Oaxaca and the Guelaguetza 2026 Organizing Committee have announced a call for participation in the selection of delegations that will perform at the Lunes del Cerro (Mondays on the Hill) and its Octave, to be held on July 20 and 27. Registration will close on Monday, March 23, and all municipalities in the state’s eight regions are eligible to participate.
As part of the process, each municipality may register only one delegation comprised of residents from their community. Priority will be given to dance and musical expressions that safeguard the ritual, historical, and communal significance of the communities.
These proposals must not exceed 12 minutes and must be supported by a monograph that demonstrates their tangible and intangible cultural richness. To participate, each delegation must also consist of a maximum of 40 members who actively participate in the promotion and preservation of the artistic and cultural expressions of their municipality, and who must:
Be of legal age.
Applicants must be born in the municipality or have resided there for at least two years.
Participation of minors is not permitted, except when justified by the artistic performance.
The participation of municipal authorities, legislators, public servants, or cabinet members as dancers, musicians, or entertainers for the delegation is prohibited.
A call for entries has been launched to choose the official image of the 2026 Guelaguetza in Oaxaca; here’s how you can participate:
Registration will be in person at the Directorate of Community Cultural Programs of the Secretariat of Cultures and Arts (Seculta), located at Tercera Privada de Pinos, 105, Colonia Reforma, in Oaxaca de Juárez. Registration forms can be downloaded from the website: www.oaxaca.gob.mx/seculta In addition, the following documents must be submitted:
Minutes of the town council or assembly meeting for the formation, ratification, or renewal of the Community Cultural Commission.
Copies of current official identification for all members of the delegation.
Letters of origin and residency for all members of the delegation, issued by the municipal authority.
After registration and the evaluation process, site visits will be conducted between March 27 and April 26. The selected delegations will participate in the four performances of the 2026 Guelaguetza at the Rotonda de las Azucenas.
