A group of 51 people—20 women, 18 men, and 13 minors—were evacuated from the ejido (communal land) of Llano de San Blas, Nayarit, after a roadblock prevented them from returning to their homes during the criminal activity that occurred on Sunday.
The transfer to the city of Tepic was carried out with the support of naval personnel, who ensured the families’ safety amidst the tension generated by the armed attacks in the region.
Residents of El Llano offered assistance to families after the violent events.
Testimonies shared on social media describe the fear experienced by the families, who were forced off a truck by armed men and made to walk for miles under threat. Residents of El Llano provided them with shelter, food, and protection before they could be evacuated.
At the same time, the Navy deployed patrols to medical facilities in the municipality of Ruiz to deter further attacks and maintain order in areas affected by the violence.
These events add to the wave of violence generated after the hunt for Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, who was killed on February 22.
The security cabinet reported on Sunday that 252 roadblocks were registered in 20 states. Jalisco had the highest number, with 65.
Isolated roadblocks were also reported in other states, such as Aguascalientes, Baja California, Chiapas, Colima, the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Zacatecas.
In Jalisco, road blockades, arson attacks on businesses, and armed attacks against authorities were reported, leaving 25 members of the National Guard dead, according to the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch.
Currently, there are no road blockades, and it is estimated that all the remains of the damaged vehicles will be removed within 36 hours.
In addition, public transportation is operating at 70 percent capacity, while industrial and commercial chambers resumed their productive activity this Tuesday.
Regarding in-person classes, Governor Pablo Lemus explained that they will resume tomorrow, Wednesday, after being suspended this Monday due to the violent incidents.
