They are calling for a forum of indigenous neighborhoods in Zacatecas

State authorities have launched the call for papers for the second State Forum on Indigenous Neighborhoods in Zacatecas, to be held on April 10. The forum will accept studies on the indigenous towns and neighborhoods that settled in the state between the 16th and 19th centuries.

The invitation is open to researchers, students, civil organizations, educational institutions, and the general public. Proposals should address the role of these settlements in the territorial, social, and cultural development of Zacatecas.

Presentations, which must be registered before March 27, will be delivered in person at the forum, and speakers will have up to 15 minutes to present. The full texts selected for publication will be received no later than April 17.

The president of the civil association Friends of Zacatecas Heritage (Apazac), Josefina Nava Sánchez, highlighted that the first edition broadened the historical understanding of the state’s ethnic past, and that a copy of the publication will be presented during the 2026 state forum.

“This year we want to extend the invitation to researchers to join us so that we can gain a deeper understanding of the cultural groups that came to be part of Zacatecas,” she said.

Considering that there is still much to explore regarding the Indigenous neighborhoods, she asked those interested to contact the State Chronicle at 492 923 95 05.
