In an atmosphere of solidarity, flavor, and camaraderie, Chef Luis Osuna Vidaurri emphasized the importance of unity during the “Cooking with Purpose” Gastronomic Fair, held in Mazatlán. The event brought together more than 16 local chefs to support Chef Andrea Lizárraga, who suffered an accident months earlier.
“The purpose is very clear: to support each other,” Osuna Vidaurri explained, adding that this event not only has a noble cause but also represents a powerful message of cohesion within the restaurant industry.
He underscored that the strength of Mazatlán’s gastronomy lies in the collaboration between generations, where chefs with extensive experience work side-by-side with young talents who are beginning to make their mark on the local culinary scene.
Far from being a competition, the chef emphasized that it fosters true intergenerational collaboration.
“It’s not a clash, it’s a collaboration between generations of chefs to send a message of unity. Yes, we can do things together,” he affirmed, emphasizing that the restaurant sector is going through times that demand cohesion, stability, and positive communication.
During the fair, each participant presented a signature dish from their kitchen, offering attendees a representative sample of local talent.
In his case, Osuna Vidaurri brought a grilled octopus taco with refried beans and a creamy aguachile with requesón cheese, a dish that reflects his creativity and deep connection to the flavors of the port city.
The fair-style format allowed the public to browse the different booths, interact with the chefs, and learn about their culinary creations firsthand.
The event was a complete sell-out, with tickets having sold out weeks in advance, which, according to Osuna Vidaurri, demonstrates the solidarity of the Mazatlán community.
“The people of Mazatlán are supportive, they like to support each other, and they are very supportive,” he noted, highlighting the positive energy that permeated the event.
In addition to supporting their colleague, the chefs took the opportunity to reaffirm that local cuisine is one of the most important pillars of Mazatlán’s identity.
Osuna Vidaurri assured that the destination’s restaurants are fully equipped to welcome tourists and offer high-level culinary experiences, driven also by new generations who are innovating and raising the bar for gastronomic quality.
Finally, he called on both locals and visitors to support local businesses and patronize restaurants, small eateries, taco stands, food carts, and seafood restaurants.
“We need to go out and support local businesses, our chefs, and our restaurants,” he emphasized.
The “Cooking with Purpose” Gastronomic Fair not only fulfilled its solidarity objective, but also made it clear that when the community unites, gastronomy becomes an engine of hope, identity and social reconstruction for Mazatlán.
