The sons of Fabiola Ricci Diestel, the Morena party mayor of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, showed off Audi S5 cars, which have a list price of 1,514,000 pesos, allegedly received as a birthday gift.

The two vehicles reportedly cost 3,115,000 pesos. These cars were revealed through posts made by the mayor’s own family members, boasting about the gift from Martín Sánchez Ricci and Isaac Sánchez Ricci, the former PAN party mayor’s sons.

The mayor has a gross monthly salary of 112,000 pesos, so she would have had to save 21 full months’ worth of her salary to be able to give them this gift, if indeed it happened.

But she already had significant declared debts, such as another Ford pickup truck worth 1,368,000 pesos, which she bought in 2024.

These revelations about the mayor’s vehicles come as the newspaper El Universal published photos of “El Mencho’s” “narco-payroll” following the drug trafficker’s death in Tapalpa.

Fabiola Ricci Diestel declared three houses, a 2024 Ford Ranger pickup truck, and debts exceeding 1.5 million pesos in her asset declaration for the 2025 fiscal year, filed with the DeclaraFácil system.

In the public document, the mayor reports a net annual income of 408,803 pesos from her position, three properties in her name acquired between 2013 and 2019, a 2024 Ford Ranger pickup truck, and various debts totaling more than 1.5 million pesos.

According to the public version of the declaration (printed on July 16, 2025), Ricci Diestel’s income is solely from her salary as mayor. She did not report any additional income from business, financial, or professional activities, nor from the sale of assets.

The mayor is the sole owner of three houses:

– One acquired in 2013 for 663,487 pesos (150 m² of land and construction).

– Another purchased in 2019 for 587,146 pesos (321 m² of land and 300 m² of construction).

– A third also acquired in 2019 for 393,669 pesos (450 m² of land and 150 m² of construction).

All were paid for in cash through a purchase agreement. Regarding vehicles, she reports a 2024 Ford Ranger, acquired on February 14, 2024, for 1,368,000 pesos, through a loan from the company Distribuidores de Autocamiones de Chiapas. As for bank accounts, she declares several savings and payroll accounts at Banorte, as well as at least one additional account at Santander (details of balances and account numbers are protected by the public version). In the debts section, the mayor reported an auto loan with Banorte for 1,368,000 pesos (which matches the Ranger).

Fabiola Ricci Diestel holds a law degree (2007) and a master’s degree in criminal sciences (2022), both from the Manuel José de Rojas Institute of Higher Studies. Her work experience includes: State Representative (2021-2024 and 2015-2018), Director of the General Archive and Notaries of the State of Chiapas (2019-2020), City Councilor in San Cristóbal de las Casas (2011-2012), and a brief stint in the private sector at Nissin Distributors (2009-2011).

She reported no involvement in private companies, trusts, major clients, or public funding in the last two years. Fabiola Ricci married Héctor Adolfo de León Trejo last year; he is the leader of the academic staff union at the Autonomous University of Chiapas.

The payroll records of “El Mencho,” REVEALED BY THE NEWSPAPER EL UNIVERSAL, show payments in the state of Chiapas from November 3rd to 9th (the year is unknown), with 21 payments ranging from 15,000 to 283,000 pesos.

The breakdown mentions 21 zones, and the payment corresponds to the number of “boys” involved. One section of the payroll lists “Secretary S. Cristobal” and “Municipality of San Cristóbal,” both with 50,000 pesos for the period, meaning total payments of 100,000 pesos.

Ricci argued in his defense: “Regarding the information published by the newspaper El Universal, I reiterate that in San Cristóbal de Las Casas there are open doors for the corresponding investigations to be carried out, in accordance with the public policies of Governor Dr. Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar. Let there be a thorough investigation and let those responsible be held accountable.”
