Next Saturday, March 7th, the Eighth Commemorative Horseback Ride will take place, organized by the association Mujeres de a Caballo del Estado de Oaxaca A.C. (or Mujeres Cabalgantes de Ranchos Unidos del Estado de Oaxaca A.C.), as part of the commemorative events for March 8th, International Women’s Day.
The ride is expected to gather more than 200 women who will ride through the main streets and avenues of Oaxaca to demonstrate peacefully and avoid conflict with the collectives and affiliated groups that will march en masse on Sunday, March 8th, to the Zócalo in Oaxaca.
The CNTE (National Coordinator of Education Workers) is preparing a massive march for March 8, 2026, in Oaxaca for International Women’s Day: route and time
A procession through the city center is expected with hundreds of women on horseback, recognizing female strength and equestrian tradition, and demanding equality, remembrance, and an end to gender violence. The march will also take the opportunity to support other institutions such as the Teletón Children’s Rehabilitation Center (CRIT Oaxaca).
The gathering time is 8:30 a.m. near Primavera Cho Ndobá Park, with the route following main streets in the Historic Center, including the pedestrian walkway and the area around the Santo Domingo de Guzmán Church, until reaching the Zócalo (main square).
However, the march won’t be limited to the city of Oaxaca. Another march is planned for the Costa Chica region of Oaxaca, specifically in Puerto Escondido, between Barra de Colotepec and Santa María Colotepec. It will depart at 2:30 p.m. from Barra de Colotepec in the first section (Calle Fundadores, El Palmar Restaurant), with lunch at 1:00 p.m. and a gathering at the end.
Both mobilizations symbolize empowerment, sisterhood, rural unity, and recognition of women’s role in Oaxacan traditions. They also serve to highlight the demands of women’s collectives and to demand the fulfillment of their rights.
On Sunday, March 8th, massive mobilizations will take place, organized by feminist collectives and members of the CNTE teachers’ union. They will join together to demonstrate for International Women’s Day (March 8th) and to demand greater visibility for their legitimate demands regarding the ISSSTE Law and the review of the pension system.
The massive march will begin at 9:00 a.m. with rallies at the Monument to the Mother and the Zócalo. It will focus on labor demands and an end to gender violence. Later, at 3:00 p.m., independent groups will gather at points such as the Fountain of the Eight Regions, heading towards the Cathedral or the Zócalo, to begin the march.
