“Human chains protect the Church of Carmen in Guadalajara amid protests”

Catholics dressed in white formed a human chain to prevent damage to the Carmen Church in Guadalajara. State security forces formed a second chain to protect the parishioners, some of whom were attacked with water bottles by the protesters.

A group of protesters attempted to cross the metal barriers to reach the Guadalajara Cathedral, but their path was blocked by security forces. This denial of access escalated tensions in the city’s historic center.

In response, some of the barriers surrounding the Plaza de Armas have already been torn down by the group as the protests continue. The police presence remains firm to prevent the protesters from advancing toward the religious site.

Thousands of protesters are arriving via Paseo Alcalde to gather at the Antimonumenta in downtown Guadalajara to mark International Women’s Day. The group is advancing while the heart of the city remains under strict security.

Strategic areas such as the Government Palace, the Plaza de Armas, and the Cathedral are surrounded by barriers and state police officers. These security measures have effectively placed the main points of the city center under siege as the mobilization begins.

A group of protesters threw water and shouted slogans in front of the Templo del Carmen, which is guarded by civilians in white and police officers. While the women protested, the security guards responded with apparent mockery, creating tense moments during a pause in the march.

Upon arriving at Parque Revolución, also known as Parque Rojo (Red Park), a group of women dancers joined the contingent of the International Women’s Day march.

The participants joined in with dances and cultural expressions as the march continued through the streets of downtown Guadalajara.

During their march through downtown Guadalajara, the contingent of the International Women’s Day march paused outside the Rector’s Office of the University of Guadalajara.

There, some protesters spray-painted monuments and placed signs with slogans as part of the protest and denunciation actions accompanying the march.
