Tulum’s decline leads to a freeze on tour prices during Holy Week

Tourism service providers in Tulum announced they will maintain low-season rates during the upcoming Easter holiday period, aiming to encourage visitors and boost the local economy.

Eulogio Cauich, who has over 20 years of experience in the tour and car rental market, explained that the strategy seeks to build trust among tourists and motivate them to book services during their stay.

Cauich noted that current economic conditions also influence the decision to maintain the same prices, as higher rates could discourage booking tourist activities. He indicated that the sector’s intention is to offer affordable options so visitors can enjoy the experiences the destination offers without cost being a barrier.

He emphasized that, despite maintaining the same prices, they expect an increase in demand for tourism services during the holiday period.

According to industry forecasts, activity could increase between 20 and 30 percent during Holy Week, representing a significant boost for those who depend on tourism in this municipality, which has already been affected in recent months by a sharp decline in tourism and the economy in general.

Although occupancy levels are above 85% in Playa del Carmen, hoteliers are suffering from low rates, which are impacting their profitability, as recently pointed out by Offner Arjona, president of the Playa del Carmen Small Hotels Association.
