The United States Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, emphasized that both nations “are taking decisive bilateral actions to disarm the transnational cartels that threaten communities on both sides of the border.”

In a message posted tonight on his social media accounts, following Trump’s criticism of Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, the diplomat also highlighted the U.S. government’s efforts to curb arms trafficking.

Stopping the illegal flow of weapons, he explained, “is not only a priority for the United States, it is fundamental to weakening the cartels and ensuring safer communities for families in both countries.

The Trump Administration has acted decisively against these networks to protect our nations from narco-terrorist violence,” and he listed the achievements: More than 36,000 illegal firearms and 2.3 million rounds of ammunition seized.

Ambassador Johnson highlighted that “U.S. agents have intercepted 4,500 weapons destined for Mexico and 650,000 rounds of ammunition” and that “Operations in the United States have dismantled smuggling networks that were attempting to introduce high-powered weaponry into Mexico, including belt-fed weapons and high-powered .50 caliber rifles.”
