According to information from the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), 27,809 electrified vehicles were sold by the end of the first two months of the year, representing a 31.6% increase compared to 2015, with an 11.1% market share.

Although an increase was achieved in the first two months, the percentage is much lower compared to the growth of over 50% seen in recent years. The data shows that, of all the vehicles with advanced technology sold in the country, at least 20,295 were hybrids, equivalent to 72.9%, while 14.1% or 3,935 were plug-in hybrids, and 3,579 were electric.

The report also details that of all the new-generation cars sold in the first two months of the year, the majority—23.5%, or 6,538 units—were sold in Mexico City, while 12.8%, or 3,577 cars, were sold in the State of Mexico, making it the second-largest market.

Nuevo León ranks third in sales, with 11.4% of the cars sold, while Jalisco and Guanajuato hold 8.3% and 4.05% respectively, placing them fourth and fifth.

As part of this trend and the evolution the automotive industry is pursuing, between February 2020 and February 2026, the Mexican automotive industry has already produced 653,420 fully electrified vehicles, reflecting the sector’s ongoing integration.

Data from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) shows that automakers General Motors, Stellantis, Ford, and Toyota are implementing a new business strategy and have adapted their plants in Mexico to produce these types of vehicles.

Ford is currently producing the Mustang Mach-E at its Cuautitlán Izcalli plant, a model that, as of February of this year, had already reached 357,887 units.

General Motors began production of its Chevrolet Blazer EV model at its Ramos Arizpe plant in Coahuila in October 2023, and has already produced 63,602 vehicles.

However, as part of its business strategy, the company also added the Chevrolet Equinox EV to its production lines, of which it has already produced 140,245 units.

In the case of Toyota, production of the new Tacoma Hybrid Electric began in 2024 at its plant in Mexico, where it has produced 63,161 vehicles. Similarly, Stellantis began assembling its Wagoneer S electric model, which has already reached 28,525 units.
