New judicial files shed light on a criminal network that implicates the inner circle of Andrés López Beltrán. According to journalist Raymundo Riva Palacio in his latest opinion column, the controversy involving brothers Amílcar and Luis Alberto Olán Aparicio will not end, as evidence has emerged of alleged ties between their business network and organized crime organizations in southeastern Mexico.
Judicial Files Reveal More Than 15 Years of Criminal History
According to Riva Palacio, judicial documents that began circulating in southeastern Mexico detail that Luis Alberto Olán Aparicio was prosecuted in at least three criminal cases —34/2011, 172/2009, and 123/2009— for organized crime, drug-related offenses, and criminal association.
Among the most serious records is his July 14, 2022 conviction for criminal association and attempted murder against former Tabasco deputy prosecutor Álex Álvarez Gutiérrez, carried out in 2009. The journalist details that Olán Aparicio’s alleged criminal alliances evolved over time, moving from “Los Zetas” to the Cártel Nueva Generación (CNG), alongside key operators such as Iván Cazarín, alias “El Tanque.”
“The criminal career of Luis Alberto Olán Aparicio documented in judicial files makes it possible to see one of the routes followed by the Grupo Tabasco in recent years, where it was allegedly linked to the CNG,” warns Raymundo Riva Palacio.
Money-Laundering Networks and Institutional Inaction
The journalist highlights that the network expanded its operations into tax-fraud fuel trafficking and smuggling through criminal alliances and the alleged use of public notaries linked to Melchor López Hernández, brother of Senator Adán Augusto López, to launder money through shell companies and invoice-factoring companies.
Despite avoiding prison on the grounds of suffering from a mental disorder in 2013, Luis Alberto Olán later reappeared as the person responsible for supplying materials for emblematic projects such as the Maya Train and the Interoceanic Train, where he was known as “the engineer.”
Ties to the Former President’s Inner Circle and Million-Peso Contracts
Riva Palacio states that the closeness between the Olán Aparicio family and Andrés López Beltrán dates back to at least 2014, when they were photographed together at a wedding in Villahermosa. Later, in 2020, the company Romedic —established by Amílcar and his father— received contracts worth nearly 500 million pesos in Tabasco and Quintana Roo.
The author harshly questions the lack of investigations by federal authorities into the criminal history of those involved.
“Luis Alberto’s criminal activities should not have been ignored by Andy; quite the opposite, and based on what the recordings of the Olán Aparicio family revealed, the relationship with the CNG was an asset used to promote them,” Riva Palacio concludes.
