US President Donald Trump asserted that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum should not have rejected his help in combating the cartels in the country, speaking to reporters on Friday.
“She shouldn’t have turned down my help. I offered to get rid of the cartels in Mexico, and for some reason, she doesn’t want to do that. I like her very much, but she should get rid of the cartels because the cartels—whether we like it or not—the cartels control Mexico. We can’t allow that.”
Earlier, on his Truth Social account, Trump posted the clip in which President Sheinbaum made the statements regarding her refusal to allow the entry of US armed forces into Mexico.
“It’s good that the president is publicly stating that when he has proposed the deployment of the U.S. military to Mexico, we have said no. Because it’s the truth: we have said no. And we have proudly said no,” the president declared on March 9 during her morning press conference, a statement which Trump later posted on his Truth Social account.
In this context, during that same press conference, the president suggested that if the United States wants to support Mexico, it should stop the illegal flow of weapons from its territory to Mexican cartels.
