A joint operation between federal and state authorities in Huajicori, Nayarit, resulted in the arrest of 20 people, one of whom was injured and taken for medical treatment. Authorities also seized 12 rifles, more than 3,500 rounds of ammunition, 75 magazines, and eight improvised explosive devices, the state government reported.

Earlier, an armed confrontation had taken place between criminal gangs over territory and internal conflicts—CJNG and factions of Los Chapitos against Los Mayos.

In a statement, authorities reported that they also seized tactical equipment, ballistic plates, holsters, and helmets.

They emphasized that the operation was carried out without affecting the public and that there were no casualties among security personnel, stressing that planning, intelligence gathering, and strategic action were prioritized.

Huajicori and the northern region of Nayarit have been the scene of sustained violence since 2023, with reports of forced displacement, extortion, disappearances, and homicides.

This situation intensified starting in 2024, after the capture of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, when an internal conflict erupted within the Sinaloa Cartel between the Chapitos and Mayos factions.

In the area, reports indicate that the Chapitos have sought coordination with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) to confront the Mayos, leading to frequent violent incidents in the region.

Authorities reported that those arrested and the seized materials will be turned over to the appropriate authorities, and reiterated their commitment to continue joint actions between the federal and state governments to guarantee peace and security in the region.

The state government indicated that the operation was carried out in coordination with the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the State Police, within the framework of the National Public Security Strategy and the agreements established at the State Peace and Security Roundtable.

“These actions reflect the institutional coordination between the Federal and State governments, as well as the strengthening of operational capabilities based on intelligence work, which allows us to make progress in dismantling the generators of violence,” it was stated.

It should be noted that from Friday morning until midday, clashes were reported in the municipal seat of Huajicori. Students even recorded the events and uploaded videos to social media.

One of the videos shows a teacher and her students lying on the ground to avoid being hit by projectiles.

During those hours, it was reported that the clashes began in the vicinity of CBTA 248 and moved toward Cerro de la Cruz, although authorities ultimately confirmed that the operations concluded in the mountainous area.
