The Mexican government’s Security Cabinet confirmed that Mónica del Rosario Zambada Niebla, daughter of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, was detained and later released during an operation carried out by the Mexican Navy in the town of El Salado.

In a statement released at noon on Thursday, authorities reported the arrest of a man identified as a member of a criminal cell belonging to “Los Mayos,” a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. During the same operation, the daughter of the Sinaloa drug lord was apprehended at a property linked to the criminal organization.

However, the statement indicated that Mónica Zambada “has no connection to criminal activities nor any outstanding warrants against her,” which is why she was released.

At the scene, it was confirmed that one of “El Mayo’s” daughters was also detained and held in isolation on a property near the residence where the operation took place.

After being freed, it was observed that the woman had head injuries, and family members at the scene indicated she also had stomach injuries.

Following these actions in the town of El Álamo, members of the Mexican Navy expanded the operation to the El Salado district. In one of the nearby communities, they were attacked and returned fire.

As a result, 11 alleged attackers were killed by the Navy, and high-powered weapons and tactical equipment were seized.
