A tractor-trailer carrying several tons of lemons overturned on its left side on the Ciudad del Carmen–Villahermosa highway, near the town of San Antonio, after running off the road and crashing into a tree. This led to looting by dozens of people.
According to initial reports, the wrecked vehicle was a white Volvo, unit number 04, with license plates 07-AS-2V, registered for federal transportation. The cargo was scattered across the area, drawing attention from local residents.
The driver was unharmed and did not require hospitalization. Authorities launched an investigation to determine the cause of the rollover.
However, the situation spiraled out of control when dozens of people arrived at the scene to take the merchandise. Within minutes, crates and boxes of lemons were being removed by car, motorcycle, and even on foot, with insufficient police presence to stop the looting.
Subsequently, members of the National Guard’s Highway Division implemented an operation to secure the area, although much of the cargo had already been stolen. The area remains under federal custody, awaiting the arrival of the insurance company for the investigation and determination of liability.
