In response to the increased use of motorcycles in the municipality, as well as the presence of minors driving these vehicles, the Secretariat of Citizen Security reported that it is maintaining constant operations in various neighborhoods to check documents and safety measures. While no fines are being issued, preventative information is being provided to drivers.

The Secretary of Citizen Security, Gabriel Yañez, indicated that these actions are being carried out as part of a public surveillance program, with patrols in areas where higher motorcycle traffic has been detected.

He noted that one of the main objectives of the operations is to verify that drivers have the required documentation and are wearing helmets.

He explained that the participation of minors driving motorcycles has also been identified, so interventions are being carried out to prevent this practice and provide guidance to those responsible.

Gabriel Yañez reported that fines are not generally issued during these operations in the municipality. “There are no fines in San Miguel de Allende; operations are carried out, and sanctions are only imposed when the case warrants it,” he stated.

He indicated that the instruction is to prioritize inspections and direct contact with drivers, through warnings and recommendations on motorcycle use.

He added that motorcycles, although designed for short trips, are sometimes used in inappropriate conditions, which can create dangerous situations on public roads.

During the operations, officers also check that the motorcycles comply with established regulations, such as wearing a helmet and respecting traffic laws.

The official specified that sanctions are only considered when violations that represent a risk or repeated non-compliance are detected.

It was reported that the operations may change location without prior notice, with the aim of expanding coverage to different areas of the municipality.

The actions include a presence in neighborhoods, main roads, and high-traffic areas, where direct supervision of motorcycle drivers is carried out.

Finally, the Secretariat of Citizen Security reiterated that these measures seek to reduce incidents and promote compliance with traffic regulations, through citizen participation and attention to the recommendations issued during the operations.
