For the past fifteen years, the Rosarito Art Walk has been the most important visual arts event in the region.
Baja California in general, and the Rosarito region in particular, have all the necessary ingredients for art: landscapes, multiculturalism, and many voices with something important to say.
Many of these voices converge at an event that, for the past fifteen years, has welcomed the best of the region to demonstrate that talent here is not exhausted; on the contrary, it flourishes and inspires.
“It’s been 15 years now, so it’s become a tradition in Rosarito, especially on the third weekend of May, which is when we usually hold it, because it coincides with a holiday in the United States.
“This year, in particular, because it’s our 15th anniversary, we want to pay tribute to several artists who participated in some of the editions, but who have since passed away—several great masters,” explains Benito del Águila, cultural promoter and director of ArtWalk Rosarito, in an exclusive interview with El Heraldo de México.
This year, ArtWalk Rosarito will be dressed up to honor five artists who have exhibited their work in one of its editions and who, sadly, are no longer with us.
“We will also be paying tribute to the most outstanding artists from each municipality and will also be giving awards to the artists who have participated over the past 15 years.”
“The venue we’re currently in, the State Arts Center in Playas de Rosarito, is about to turn 10 years old, meaning we started five years earlier. The Municipal Institute of Art and Culture is currently renovating its facilities, and the Puerto Nuevo Museum reopened a year ago,” says Del Águila.
This year, the Rosarito ArtWalk will be held on May 23 and 24 at the State Arts Center in Playas de Rosarito, where you can view exhibitions, purchase artwork, and enjoy food and literary events. Admission is free.
