The State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) launched Operation Safe Holy Week 2026 this Thursday, March 26, with a strategic deployment along highways and in tourist areas, aiming to guarantee the safety of visitors and residents during the holiday period.

The operation was officially launched in the morning at kilometer 30 of the Juárez-Ahumada highway, in an event led by authorities from all three levels of government.

The operation involves agencies such as the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Ministry of Tourism, and the State Civil Protection Coordination, as well as emergency response organizations and representatives from the business sector.

During the launch, the State Secretary of Public Security, Gilberto Loya, emphasized that Chihuahua has made significant progress in security in recent years, which inspires confidence in both tourists and the local population.

He stressed that the goal is for those who visit the state to enjoy their stay and return safely to their homes. In that regard, the official attributed the results to the coordination between authorities and the decisions of the state government. “Ciudad Juárez was able to drop out of the list of the 15 most violent cities, thanks again to that coordination. Governor Maru Campos has made important decisions, especially for Ciudad Juárez; you saw this with the change in government representation, which also led to an improvement in how the state addresses the needs of this border city,” he stated.

Also present at the event were Carlos Ortiz, the governor’s representative in Ciudad Juárez; Colonel Mauricio Cansino Báez, commander of the Military Garrison; State Representative Xóchitl Contreras; as well as representatives from the National Chamber of Commerce (CANACO), Civil Protection, the Red Cross, and state and municipal authorities.

According to data from the State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE), during the 2025 Holy Week operation, outreach efforts reached more than 192,500 people through community engagement, in addition to actions in 30 municipalities, 284 preventative patrols, and various pre-hospital and roadside assistance services.

Air deployments, drone flights, and virtual patrols were also carried out, capabilities that will be reinforced in 2026.

Finally, Loya expressed his confidence that, through the combined efforts of institutions and the community, the Holy Week operation will conclude without incident, while reiterating the call for the public to cooperate with the authorities and follow safety recommendations during this holiday period.
