Police in Playa del Carmen pelted a house with rocks while carrying out an eviction order in the Colosio neighborhood of this municipality, resulting in several injuries.

The incident occurred Wednesday morning when a group from the Playa del Carmen Secretariat of Citizen Security accompanied a court officer from the Quintana Roo Judiciary to carry out the eviction of the occupants of the property; however, things got out of control when the residents began to resist.

Security camera footage shows the moment the police officers violently threw rocks and stones at the house, leaving at least three people injured, according to sources.

Carlos Alberto Montesinos García, Secretary of Citizen Security for Playa del Carmen, justified the actions of the officers under his command at a press conference later that afternoon. He stated that the occupants were waiting for them with rocks, sticks, and a gas cylinder, intending to detonate it, at a house located across from a secondary school where classes were being held at the time.

“Yes, some officers used excessive force and deviated from the bounds of the law and established procedures. We agree that an investigation should be conducted; we are not closed to that possibility,” Montesinos García maintained.

The incident occurred in the Colosio neighborhood, which was part of the partial regularization process involving the distribution of property titles personally overseen by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the end of his term. However, this process did not benefit the majority of the residents of the area, which began as a squatter settlement more than three decades ago.

This is not the first time the Playa del Carmen Police have used excessive force. Proceso reported on November 14, 2025, that members of the corporation assaulted some members of the media while dissuading a road blockade.
