The 2026 hurricane season in Mexico is shaping up to be one of the most closely monitored due to the influence of the El Niño phenomenon.
How many hurricanes are predicted for the 2026 season?
According to preliminary forecasts from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) and specialists, up to 39 tropical systems are expected to form in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans:
Pacific Ocean: An estimated 15 to 20 systems.
Atlantic Ocean: An estimated 14 to 19 systems.
Of this total, authorities warn that at least 5 tropical cyclones could make landfall in Mexico. The first names on the list for this year are Amanda (Pacific) and Arthur (Atlantic).
