Holy Week in Mexico City: Romerito season begins

In anticipation of the Holy Week season, Mexico City authorities announced the start of romeritos sales at the Central de Abasto (Ceda) wholesale market, where approximately 1,200 tons of this traditional product are expected to arrive.

During a visit to San Andrés Mixquic, in the Tláhuac borough, the director of the Central de Abasto, Mónica Pacheco, along with Mayor Berenice Hernández, highlighted the importance of this area as one of the main romeritos production centers nationwide.

The authorities noted that this production not only supplies Mexico City but is also distributed to various states throughout the country, especially during Holy Week celebrations, when demand for this staple of Mexican cuisine increases.

They also announced the inauguration of the Romeritos Market at the Central de Abasto, a space designed to strengthen the connection between producers and consumers, promote direct trade, and recognize the work of Mexican farmers.

San Andrés Mixquic is recognized for the production of romeritos thanks to the work of its farmers, who keep alive this culinary tradition that is part of the country’s cultural identity.
