An armed attack inside a bar in Cancún, Quintana Roo, left at least five people injured early Monday morning, March 30, according to unofficial reports. The incident prompted a large deployment of security forces in the area of Kabah and Niños Héroes avenues.

According to testimonies gathered by the Facebook page Noticias Cancún 365 Días, the establishment, which has operated under the names Babilonia, Pájaro Azul, and Fusion, was the scene of an attack in which several people were wounded by gunfire.

The broadcasts and testimonies from this local news outlet detailed that the attack occurred around 1:55 a.m. Witnesses stated that several armed men arrived on motorcycles and entered the bar, opening fire on patrons and employees.

Among the injured, a woman reportedly suffered two gunshot wounds, one to the collarbone and the other to the face, and was taken to the hospital by private means. Unconfirmed reports indicate that another man may have died inside the restroom.

The majority of the injured are believed to be men, according to initial reports. Paramedics from various agencies transported the injured to the General Hospital of Cancún. At least one of the victims was found outside the bar, on a nearby street.

Municipal police and the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security established a double security perimeter on Kabah Avenue and Niños Héroes Street, in front of Superblock 221 and near a well-known supermarket. Security forces secured the area while awaiting the arrival of investigators, who began their investigation.

Regarding the possible causes of the attack, reports suggest it may have stemmed from internal disputes between alleged members of groups that control nightclubs in Cancún.

The Violent History of Fusion/Babylon Bar
The establishment currently known as Fusion Bar has a long history of violence that has persisted for years in Cancún, operating under different business names, including Babylon and Blue Bird.

The incident preceding the most recent occurred in February 2025. During the attack, at least three people were wounded by gunfire: two men and a woman, who were assisted by paramedics and immediately transported to the Cancún General Hospital for medical attention.

The situation became even more serious when one of the bar’s waitresses, overwhelmed by the terror caused by the violence, suffered a sudden heart attack and died at the scene. According to reports from authorities, the cause of death was attributed to the extreme stress of witnessing the shooting, and not to a direct gunshot wound.
