On February 20th, the tranquility of a family in San Martín Itunyoso, in the Triqui region of Oaxaca, was shattered by the disappearance of Roxana López Martínez. The agricultural engineer, a graduate of ITVO, vanished without a trace.
The family has expressed outrage not only over the 40 days since Roxana’s disappearance, but also over the inaction of the municipal authorities, where residents say a situation like this has never happened before.
Roxana, 24, was last seen wearing clothing that suggests she didn’t plan to go far or that she left in a hurry: she was wearing red plaid pajama pants and a black coat with gold stripes.
As distinguishing features, the young woman has three tattoos that her family asks everyone to remember: a rose on her right wrist, a sun on her left arm, and a butterfly on her right shoulder, in addition to a small scar on the right side of her face.
According to reports, the last person seen with her was her boyfriend, identified as Dagoberto, who is the nephew of the current mayor. This relationship has raised suspicions among the engineer’s family and friends, who are asking that the investigation not be halted, even if it involves the mayor’s direct relative.
San Martín Itunyoso is an indigenous community where social ties are strong. Therefore, the fact that no one knows anything after 40 days is unbelievable to the residents.
Roxana’s family reports that, despite having filed the corresponding reports, the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office has not initiated a search operation nor obtained a single result or trace of the young woman.
Roxana is not just a missing person’s report; she is a professional who had just begun her career after studying at the Technological Institute of the Valley of Oaxaca (ITVO). Slender, with light brown skin and standing 1.65 meters tall, those close to her describe her as a hardworking woman.
Nearly six weeks after her disappearance, the demand is clear: justice and results. Roxana’s family is asking the residents of San Martín Itunyoso and surrounding areas to come forward with any information they may have seen regarding the 24-year-old to the appropriate authorities.
