Mayor Enrique Galindo Ceballos paid tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Oaxaca during the 2026 San Luis en Primavera Festival, which featured the joy, color, and tradition of the Guelaguetza and the Calenda. The Mayor emphasized the importance of bringing these cultural expressions together to strengthen identity and cultural exchange between the two cities.
On the second day of the San Luis en Primavera Festival, the Plaza de Fundadores became the epicenter of tradition with the presentation of the Guelaguetza, one of Oaxaca’s most emblematic cultural expressions, which brought together thousands of residents of San Luis Potosí and visitors in an atmosphere of celebration, identity, and cultural pride.
Nearly 300 artists on stage offered a spectacle full of color, music, and symbolism, representing the richness of the eight regions of the state of Oaxaca through dances, traditional costumes, and expressions that reflect the diversity of their communities.
The musical program, led by Paty Rojas and the José López Municipal Philharmonic of Huajuapan de León, accompanied this celebration with pieces such as “Dios nunca muere” (God Never Dies) and “Canción mixteca” (Mixtec Song), while delegations from various municipalities shared their traditions, solidifying a significant cultural encounter within the festival.
As a prelude to this spectacle, the streets of the Historic Center came alive with the traditional Calenda de la Guelaguetza, a festive procession in which Oaxacan delegations brought music, dance, and joy to various streets, introducing this tradition to the people of San Luis Potosí.
In the cultural sphere, the Indigenous Peoples of Oaxaca Artisan Exhibition brings together the work of creators from different communities, who exhibit pieces made with traditional techniques such as black clay, textiles, and filigree, reflecting the talent and living heritage of the indigenous peoples.
