Cancun is experiencing a tourism boom driven by international events that have attracted more than 40,000 visitors so far this year, strengthening its global positioning beyond traditional sun and beach tourism.
Mayor Ana Paty Peralta highlighted that competitions like HYROX Cancun 2026, which brought together more than 10,000 athletes and thousands of attendees, have been key to launching this new phase for the destination.
These events, held in coordination with authorities and the private sector, have generated significant economic benefits, primarily for hotels, restaurants, and tourism services.
The strategy aims to diversify the tourism offerings, positioning Cancun as a venue for world-class sporting, cultural, and gastronomic events, beyond its beaches.
In the coming months, the agenda includes festivals, exhibitions, and high-level competitions, consolidating a calendar that seeks to maintain a steady flow of visitors throughout the year.
“Cancun is much more than sun and sand,” the mayor stated, emphasizing that this transformation boosts the destination’s competitiveness and strengthens the local economy with a long-term vision.
