Historic blow to fuel theft: Attorney General’s Office seizes more than 2 million liters in Reynosa

In a landmark operation in the fight against illicit fuel storage on the northern border, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) dismantled a major hydrocarbon storage facility in Tamaulipas.

What began as an anonymous tip ended up revealing an industrial-scale logistics infrastructure in the heart of Reynosa, highlighting the scale of energy resource trafficking in the region.

Key points of the discovery and seizure:
Crucial citizen tip: The operation stemmed from a Standardized Police Report (IPH) filed by the National Guard, triggered by an anonymous tip about a suspicious property.
Dog figures: The seized volume amounts to approximately 2,189,000 liters of illegal fuel.
Seized logistics fleet: The seizure included 49 frac tank trucks, 18 tank trucks, six additional tractor-trailers, and specialized equipment such as a homemade water pump and a forklift. Large-Scale Operation: The amount of equipment suggests a logistical operation designed to continuously move thousands of liters of fuel along the routes of Tamaulipas.

The magnitude of the operation required a joint effort between various security and law enforcement agencies. Elements of the Federal Ministerial Police, specialized forensic experts, and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) actively participated in the search.

“This operation is a testament to the strength of interagency collaboration against organized crime,” security sources indicate.

Perimeter security and logistical support were provided by a coalition of forces that included the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, working hand in hand with state authorities and technical personnel from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).

Currently, both the property and the fuel and vehicles are under the custody of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation remains open under the charge of illegal storage of hydrocarbons, with the aim of determining responsibility and the origin of the seized fuel.
