The mayor of Querétaro, Felipe Fernando Macías Olvera, confirmed the closure of eight establishments operating as brothels in the Historic Center district.

The mayor indicated that these actions were concentrated in the areas surrounding the Alameda Hidalgo park, as part of the local administration’s urban planning strategies.

“I am certain that at least eight brothels, or rather, establishments where this activity could be presumed to be taking place, have been closed in the city center,” he said.

Macías Olvera reported that, so far in his administration, 1,500 inspection, verification, and enforcement actions have been carried out at various businesses in the capital. Of these interventions, 745 consisted of formal inspections to ensure compliance with current regulations in the establishments.

The mayor specified that the eight closures in the city center were carried out under the presumption of sex work activities. He also indicated that there is coordination with state and federal government levels to monitor these types of strategies in the western and central parts of the city.

Similarly, the municipality reported issuing 350 fines to businesses for non-compliance with regulations regarding garbage and solid waste disposal. Macías Olvera reiterated that surveillance efforts will continue to prevent the operation of unauthorized businesses and maintain order in public spaces.
