Oaxaca registers more than 120,000 visitors during Holy Week

The Secretary of Tourism for Oaxaca, Saymi Pineda Velasco, reported that the state registered an influx of 120,309 visitors during Holy Week, with an average hotel occupancy rate of 70.53 percent.

She detailed that this activity generated an estimated economic impact of 564 million pesos, with the participation of 108,367 domestic tourists and 11,942 international tourists, who stayed an average of 2.07 days and spent an average of 2,261 pesos per person.

The official highlighted that these results represent a 13.34 percent increase compared to 2015, as well as a growth of nearly 5 percent in economic impact.

She specified that Huatulco Bays reached a hotel occupancy rate of 89.26 percent, while the day with the highest tourist demand registered an average occupancy rate of 84.41 percent across the main tourist destinations.

Regarding connectivity, he noted that the state’s four airports served more than 79,000 passengers and announced the opening of a new air route by Fly Aerus connecting Felipe Ángeles International Airport with Ciudad Ixtepec, starting April 21.

Pineda Velasco emphasized that tourism was not concentrated in a single destination, as there was also an influx of visitors to municipalities in the Central Valleys, the Jalatlaco neighborhood, the Isthmus, the Mixteca region, and the Coast, allowing for the distribution of economic benefits across different areas.

He indicated that various cultural and traditional activities took place during the season, including the Tejate Fair in San Andrés Huayápam, the Ice Cream Fair in Asunción Nochixtlán, and the Procession of Silence, which drew more than 6,500 attendees.

In terms of security, he assured that coordinated operations were implemented with security agencies and Civil Protection, which allowed for maintaining peaceful conditions for visitors and residents.

He added that the Tourist Police conducted 598 patrols, provided 1,145 guidance sessions, and assisted with 295 safe transportation services, while the Green Angels (Angeles Verdes) responded to 121 roadside assistance calls, benefiting more than 500 tourists.

He noted that Oaxaca maintained a presence on digital platforms, reaching over 530,000 people, with more than 1.4 million views and an increase in followers, which helped position the state as one of the most visited destinations in the country.
