The victim was trapped in the twisted wreckage of his vehicle after falling from the “El Cuije” bridge, located in the municipality of Matamoros, Coahuila.

According to preliminary reports, the accident resulted from a previous collision between two vehicles. Emergency calls came into the 911 system, alerting authorities to an overturned vehicle at the bottom of the bridge, with an unconscious driver inside.

Firefighters from Torreón, as well as Civil Protection personnel from Matamoros and the Laguna Region, arrived at the scene.

Because the driver was trapped, paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross in Torreón were called in. They used the Urban Rescue unit, equipped with hydraulic tools known as the “jaws of life,” to safely extricate him.

Initial investigations by traffic authorities suggest that the vehicles involved were traveling on the Torreón-San Pedro highway at an excessive speed.

This caused a rear-end collision, resulting in the driver of a maroon pickup truck losing control, crashing into the retaining wall, and ultimately plunging off the “El Cuije” bridge, where previous tragedies have occurred.

The injured man was identified as Jesse Martínez. After being stabilized at the scene by emergency responders, he was urgently transferred to a private hospital in the northern part of Torreón. As of press time, his condition is reported as serious with a guarded prognosis.
