Tulum will fill its airport with NASCAR cars due to a shortage of flights, according to information obtained by REPORTUR.mx from the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat (Sedetur), headed by Mara Lezama (Tulum: 200 agents and 70 vehicles deployed for tourist security).

The event is scheduled for April 25 and 26, with departures starting in the afternoon, and will be based at the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum, whose air traffic is falling short of initial projections.

The event’s advertisements show NASCAR race cars lined up at the starting line in the aforementioned terminal, whose runways are usually reserved for tourist flights.

The advertisements also feature montages of the race cars with the famous archaeological zone in the background, a defining feature of Tulum and the Riviera Maya, set against its white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
