The narrative of pacification championed by the state government crashed against the reality of the metropolitan area this afternoon.

In a direct and violent attack, a suspected member of Governor Rocío Nahle García’s security detail was shot and robbed of more than 500,000 pesos in cash in the heart of Boca del Río.

The attack and alleged robbery occurred this Thursday, April 16, at the Ocean Tower, located in the Arcos subdivision on Miguel Alemán Boulevard.

The victim, identified as a retired marine assigned to guard the governor’s private office on the fifth floor of the building, was intercepted by armed individuals who did not hesitate to open fire before fleeing with the loot.

The incident not only calls into question the effectiveness of security strategies in one of the supposedly most heavily guarded areas of the state, but also raises questions about the nature of the stolen funds.

To date, the origin and destination of the large sum of cash being transported by the employee of Nahle’s organization remain unclear.

Following the attack, the building was surrounded by an impressive deployment of the Municipal Police, the State Police (SSP), and the Naval Police.

However, as is typical in most of these high-impact events, the search operation did not result in any immediate arrests, demonstrating once again the overwhelmed capacity of law enforcement to respond to a criminal who operates with complete impunity.

The injured man was rushed to the Naval Hospital, while the scene was secured for the corresponding investigation.

Meanwhile, the state administration remains silent regarding an incident that directly undermines its inner circle and contradicts the official security narrative in Veracruz.
