Eric Gudiño, Secretary of Government of Querétaro, confirmed that the state maintains a coordinated security strategy, primarily in tourist areas, following the shooting in Teotihuacan, where several people lost their lives.
The Secretary condemned the incident and emphasized the regrettable nature of the events at the archaeological site, but expressed confidence that the authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to clarify the facts.
He highlighted that, for several months, the state government has strengthened coordination with all three levels of government to address the prevailing security situation in the country, without neglecting security in tourist areas and public events.
“Here in the state, we have been working in coordination with all three levels of government. We continue to reinforce security and remain vigilant; we are not unaware of what is happening in the country,” he stated. Gudiño noted that special operations were implemented during Holy Week, with authorities maintaining a constant presence to ensure the safety of both visitors and residents.
He also indicated that, in anticipation of international events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the security strategy will continue to be strengthened in anticipation of the expected increase in tourists.
He emphasized that these actions are being led by the State Secretariat of Citizen Security, under the coordination of Iovan Pérez, who is responsible for coordinating efforts among law enforcement agencies and defining priority areas for surveillance.
“The country is currently facing a complex situation; however, we are working with all three levels of government, and the governor has instructed us to remain vigilant, not only regarding public events but also tourist activity. During Holy Week, we reinforced security and were very vigilant,” he added.
Finally, the secretary reiterated that the state government remains attentive to the national situation, committed to guaranteeing safe conditions for both residents and visitors.
As part of these actions, a municipal patrol is maintained at the El Cerrito pyramid, located in the metropolitan area, in addition to having direct communication with the C4 video surveillance system.
