This event aims to foster binational cultural cooperation and showcase the talent of Baja California.
As part of the 15th anniversary of the World Fringe International Performing Arts Festival, Artwalk Rosarito will make history by hosting the “Baja Fringe” project for the first time in Mexico.
Artwalk Rosarito Director Benito Del Águila emphasized that this partnership seeks to promote initiatives that strengthen binational cultural cooperation through art.
“We are very pleased to continue building international ties with artistic projects that believe in culture as a common language, without flags or borders,” commented Del Águila.
The event will take place at the State Center for the Arts (CEART) in Playas de Rosarito on May 23 and 24. Admission is free, making it the perfect plan if you’re looking to enjoy local art.
The project is also expected to showcase the diversity and quality of Baja Californian talent to the world, while also incorporating international proposals from the region.
Among the guests who participated in this presentation were Marco Nuño, coordinator of CEART Playas de Rosarito; Kevin Charles Patterson, founder and CEO of San Diego Fringe; Liam Harney, president of San Diego Fringe; Bárbara Velasco, director of Baja Fringe; and the Artwalk Rosarito team.
As part of the agreement, 40 representatives from the Fringe Arts Festival will present their work in Rosarito as part of the event. These representatives come from countries including Scotland, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Australia, Sweden, England, Abu Dhabi, Nigeria, Austria, India, and the United States.
What is the World Fringe Festival?
The World Fringe Festival originated in 1947 in Edinburgh, Scotland. At that time, some companies not invited to the official festival decided to perform independently, and the rest is history.
His rebellious spirit gave rise to a globally impactful project, considered the world’s most important performing arts festival, characterized by its openness to all artists and its diverse offerings, ranging from music, dance, circus, techno-performance, and audiovisual art to stand-up comedy, absurdist theater, cabaret, and burlesque.
Inspired by the San Diego International Fringe Festival, it has established itself as a key event in the border region and is seeking to expand into Mexico with Baja Fringe, its sister company in Baja California, further solidifying its role as a bridge for exchange among artists in the region.
