The port of Cabo San Lucas closed its peak cruise season with a 30 percent increase in arrivals compared to the previous season. For the Mexican Cruise Association, these numbers represent the consolidation of a period that had already been projected to be successful.

The Association’s president, Arturo Mussi Ganem, indicated that these figures are compared to the same period of the previous year, which was the peak season running from September to April.

“We anticipated this due to the new ships and their capacity, and now, compared to the previous season, we’re seeing almost 30 percent more arrivals. So, it’s been a very good season for Cabo San Lucas in terms of cruise ship arrivals.”

According to information from DataTur, Mexico’s National System of Statistical Information for the Tourism Sector, 76 cruise ships have arrived in Cabo San Lucas so far in 2016, carrying 264,140 passengers.

In comparison, 285 cruise ship arrivals in Cabo San Lucas in 2025, carrying a total of 1,057,758 passengers, were recorded, while in 2024 there were 221 arrivals with 778,537 passengers, indicating a clear difference.

For the remainder of the year, the cruise industry sees the rising cost and scarcity of fuel as its main challenge.

“One of the challenges is fuel. If fuel prices continue to rise, the biggest challenge will be the increased costs. On the other hand, there’s the shortage in Europe, which is already occurring and has led to the cancellation of some European voyages, but everything depends on how things develop.”

It’s worth noting that Cabo San Lucas continues to solidify its position as the port with the highest number of cruise ship arrivals on the Mexican Pacific route.
