The mayor of La Paz, Milena Quiroga Romero, is positioned as the leading candidate for governor of Baja California Sur from the Morena party and its allies, according to a statewide poll released in April 2026. The survey, conducted by Destino 27 in collaboration with CE Research, shows a clear advantage for the La Paz mayor over other candidates from the same political bloc.

According to the results, Quiroga garnered 33.7% of the support among Morena and its allied parties. Christian Agúndez came in second with 24.7%, while Manuel Cota registered 12.4%. This difference places the mayor as the best-positioned figure heading into a potential internal nomination.

The study also reflects Morena’s influence in the state. When asked about party affiliation and regular voting intentions, 4 out of 10 respondents expressed support for this political party. In contrast, the PAN appears as the second strongest force with just over 20%, followed by the PRI and other options with lower percentages.

Regarding personal and management attributes, Milena Quiroga consistently stands out. More than half of the participants identify her as the most honest and best-prepared option, while nearly 50% consider her close to the people and with the greatest capacity to govern. These indicators reinforce her competitive profile beyond party preference.

In a head-to-head matchup for governor, the mayor of La Paz also leads the mentions with 35.7%. She is followed by Lupita Saldaña and Ricardo Barroso, with considerable gaps, in addition to a significant percentage of people who have not yet decided how to vote. The survey was conducted on April 21, 2026, with 400 automated interviews, a margin of error of ±4.9%, and a 95% confidence level, offering a preliminary overview of the political direction in the state.
