They are looking to rebuild the fire station in the Oaxaca ejido at a new location

They plan to raise funds to build a new fire station in the Oaxaca ejido in the Mexicali Valley, stated Susana Espinoza Velasquez, a member of the Mexicali Rotary Club.

She indicated that the firefighters at that station respond to approximately 60 calls daily, serving a population of around 20,000 people in the Mexicali Valley. However, their location currently makes it difficult to get around.

“The idea is to ask for the support and collaboration of each of the residents of the seven ejidos in the northern part of the Valley and about 10 rancherías,” she added.

The Rotary Club representative explained that the station currently only has one fire engine, which, due to its location in the center of the ejido, takes a long time to respond to calls outside the ejido.

“Often, the traffic within the ejido itself, plus the passing train, prevents them from arriving when needed. The location they’ll be stationed at is right next to the ejido’s exit, which will allow them to easily reach any of the other ejidos,” he explained.

In that regard, Espinoza Velasquez invited everyone to a fundraising bingo event today at 6:00 p.m. in the Oaxaca ejido’s community hall. Tickets cost 300 pesos per person and can be purchased upon arrival.

“There will be raffles, gifts, and prizes, and we hope it will be a great success. A local artist will provide entertainment, and everyone will have a very enjoyable time,” he said.

Finally, he noted that this is the second bingo event they’ve held, as they have been organizing a series of fundraising activities to complete the new fire station.
