A tragic incident occurred Saturday morning, April 25, at a hotel in the mainland area of Isla Mujeres, where an American tourist lost his life after falling into a swimming pool.
The incident took place at the Dreams Playa Mujeres hotel, located in Costa Mujeres. According to initial reports, around 6:30 a.m., hotel staff alerted emergency services (911) after finding the guest floating unconscious in a pool approximately four meters deep.
Municipal police officers and paramedics from a private company arrived at the scene. After being guided to the area of the incident, they confirmed that the man had already died. The victim was identified by a family member as Dave Thomas, 41 years old, originally from the United States.
Subsequently, agents from the Ministerial Police conducted the initial investigation and began collecting witness statements. According to the hotel manager, minutes earlier a guest had requested assistance after being unable to locate her partner, prompting staff to initiate a search of various areas within the resort.
As part of the investigation, security camera footage was reviewed, revealing that at approximately 4:00 a.m., the tourist fell into the pool and was unable to get out. After pinpointing the exact location, staff went to the scene and recovered the body, immediately notifying the authorities.
Experts from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office processed the scene and ordered the transfer of the body to the Forensic Medical Service, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the precise cause of death.
