Ahead of the 2027 elections, Gladyz Butanda Macías, a member of the Morena party, affirmed that a woman will head the party’s gubernatorial candidacy in Michoacán. She made this announcement during an informational assembly in the municipality of Jacona, where she was a special guest.
According to a press release, speaking to hundreds of supporters of the Fourth Transformation (4T), she emphasized that this decision reflects the movement’s commitment to promoting genuine gender parity, which has moved beyond mere symbolic gestures and paved the way for the effective participation of women in all areas of public power.
She explained that Morena has promoted equitable conditions without reducing parity to a political quota, but rather as a principle practiced in the country’s institutional life. This, she said, is reflected in the representation of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
“Morena has put an end to the charade regarding gender parity. This project has brought us justice, and today, for the first time in history, women have a voice in public decision-making,” she stated in the presence of leaders such as Isidoro Mosqueda, mayor of Jacona; Mónica Valdez Pulido; and Domingo Méndez and Emmanuel Uribe, prominent figures in the region.
She also emphasized that society supports this vision, noting that 46.2 percent of Michoacán residents declare themselves ready to be governed by a woman, according to data from Populus.
Based on these arguments, she confirmed that she will seek the Morena party’s nomination for governor, following the rules and guidelines established by the party’s national leadership.
“We are going to compete, not for personal ambition, but out of a genuine interest in continuing the transformation that Michoacán is experiencing,” she concluded.
