With the repair of 286 kilometers of roads, the construction of 18 bridges, and initiatives in housing and social services, the governments of Mexico and Veracruz presented a comprehensive reconstruction program to benefit more than 181,000 residents affected by the extraordinary rains of October 2025.

On Children’s Day, officials from the Ministries of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), and Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) reported on progress and upcoming actions to restore connectivity and improve living conditions.

The Director General of SICT in Veracruz, Luis Manuel Pimentel Miranda, explained that 18 bridges and 16 roads will be repaired, covering 286 kilometers, of which 169 will be reconstructed with asphalt, hydraulic concrete, and seals, benefiting 80 communities.

On behalf of Governor Rocío Nahle García, the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP), Leonardo Cornejo Serrano, reported that, at the state level, roadworks are underway on strategic sections such as Álamo-Tantoyuca-Tempoal, San Sebastián-Chicontepec, Huayacocotla-Zontecomatlán, Zontecomatlán-Ilamatlán, and San Mateo toward the border with Hidalgo, aimed at improving regional mobility and access to services.

For her part, the head of the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU), Edna Elena Vega Rangel, reported that housing assistance for homes with partial, moderate, and total damage has already been distributed, and community assemblies are currently being held to define relocation processes to prevent residents from living in high-risk areas.

She emphasized that the interventions stem from a joint assessment by the federal and state governments to offer safe, long-term solutions, adding, “These projects are planned for future development.”

Finally, he reiterated the message from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, “the affected communities are not alone and assistance will continue until their recovery.”
