Local deputies from the PRI, PAN, and Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) parties questioned the statement by the governor of Campeche, Layda Sansores San Román of the Morena party, that there is no financial liquidity even to pay the electricity bill. They demanded accountability, arguing that sufficient resources have been approved to meet all government commitments.

Meanwhile, the president of the state Congress, Antonio Jiménez, of the Morena party, offered the full support of the Legislative Branch to resolve the problem and proposed developing “new economic strategies” to address the complex financial situation facing the state, following the governor’s declaration that the state government is bankrupt.

The coordinator of the MC caucus, Pedro Armentía, accused the governor of a lack of planning in the allocation of the public budget and questioned the prioritization of organizing concerts or mass events, which cost millions of pesos, instead of addressing the essential areas for the proper functioning of public administration.

The leader of the PRI parliamentary group, Miguel Ángel Pool Alpuche, stated that this government lacks transparency and good resource management.

He recalled that his party opposed the contracting of the one billion peso debt, since Layda Sansores did not specify how the funds would be used.

“It is regrettable to hear the governor say that there is no financial liquidity even to pay the electricity bill and blames past administrations for this situation.”

He mentioned that Sansores was a senator and representative for more than 20 years and never proposed modifying the Fiscal Coordination Law.

“Her party has governed the country for almost seven years and they haven’t made the necessary adjustments either, so her statement is inconsistent,” the PRI member pointed out.

PAN Deputy Jhosué Jesús Rodríguez Golib also lamented Campeche’s financial situation and considered that there has been a “lack of communication” between the governor and the local Congress in finding a solution to the problem.

Antonio Jiménez Gutiérrez, coordinator of Morena, considered that Sansores’ statements reflect a reality that has persisted for years: the need to replace oil dependency with a more diversified economy.

“There will be good news”

On her social media, Governor Layda Sansores announced that there will be good news to address this financial crisis and that she will have the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

“Today I received a call from Édgar Amador Zamora, Secretary of Finance, with good news from our President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. Campeche is not alone.

“We have hope, support, and we feel the affection of a compassionate President, who looks to the southeast with justice and commitment.” “Good news is coming for Campeche,” the state governor concluded in a message on X.
