So far this year, 28,030 cases have been recorded in the public sector, with the 25-44 age group being the most affected, accounting for 25.87 percent of infections, according to the State Health Secretariat (SESA).

The agency stated that acute diarrheal diseases increase due to the high temperatures in the state; however, it noted that this figure remains within the expected range for this illness.

The state agency warned that these conditions tend to increase during the hot season due to the rapid spoilage of food and the proliferation of bacteria, viruses, and parasites that affect the digestive system.

Diarrhea, the health authority explained, occurs when there are three or more loose or watery bowel movements per day and is usually associated with infections caused by consuming contaminated water or food, as well as by poor hygiene.

One of the main risks is dehydration, which can occur when the body loses large amounts of fluids and salts. Therefore, it is recommended to begin oral rehydration immediately, especially in children.

In this regard, the use of oral rehydration solution (ORS) was highlighted as an effective way to replace fluids and electrolytes. It was also recommended to keep packets of ORS available at home and administer them regularly while seeking medical evaluation.

Among the main preventive measures, the State Health Services (SESA) recommends drinking boiled or purified water, frequent handwashing, proper food preparation and storage, and avoiding street food that does not guarantee hygienic conditions.
