This Sunday, May 3rd, a demonstration took place on the northern outskirts of Tulum, near the main entrance to the archaeological zone, where advocates for free beach access, artisans, and tour vendors staged an intermittent blockade of Tulum Avenue.

The protesters alternately closed lanes, causing traffic disruptions for those heading towards Playa del Carmen, with the warning that the protest could escalate to a complete shutdown.

Their demands include free and open access to the beaches and criticism of Jaguar Park, operated by Grupo Mundo Maya, which they accuse of negatively impacting tourism through restrictions and fees.

They are also demanding the intervention of federal authorities, claiming that previous protests have gone unanswered.

Officers from the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection arrived at the scene to maintain order, and motorists were advised to take precautions.

The demonstration aims to highlight the economic and social impacts of the situation and is directed at various sectors of the community, maintaining a nonpartisan and peaceful approach.
