Arriving at the Taco Fair, the first of its kind in the capital of San Luis Potosí, is like stepping into a scene of indecision. You might hesitate, unsure which of the nearly 70 taco stands to visit, or perhaps try them one by one, or wait until Sunday to participate in the contest to see who can eat the most of this Mexican delicacy.
This Saturday, the gastronomic event opened at 10:00 a.m. on the west side of the Juan Sarabia park. Mayor Enrique Francisco Galindo and councilman Jorg Zavala officially inaugurated the event, which ran until 4:00 p.m. with the municipal tourism director, Claudia Peralta, and the councilman filling the area with diverse aromas and setting a precedent for supporting local businesses.

And the choice is tough when you arrive at the festival: sit down at Carnitas Alfaro, or go back for Don Juanito’s tacos, Los Volcanes’ tacos, the cabeza tacos, or Picaña Smoke Charly’s tacos, or ignore them all and head straight for Los Tucanes’ birria with its delicious chickpea consommé. Don’t forget the red tacos at “Los Agachados.”
Or you could just say hi to El Amigo, or spend all your time at Taco Manía, or try the tacos with full carne asada. And if all else fails, take your time and explore the variety available; if you’re in a hurry, there’s the “Todo para su Parrilla” stand where you can pick up arrachera, American cuts, and taco meat to cook at home. And here’s a tip: If you’re short on cash, it’s worth checking out the tastings offered by various vendors.
So, after weeks of organizing, changing dates and venues, the long-awaited Taco Fair finally arrived. It’s not just about selling all kinds of tacos; the salsas offered by each vendor also play a crucial role.
And this Saturday, a contest was held to determine the tastiest or most innovative salsa. We won’t reveal the winner here, so that visitors can be the ultimate judges this Sunday.
Also, there’s the option to participate in the “Taconhambre” contest, where you can see who can eat the most tacos in five minutes. Registration starts at 2:30 p.m. In addition to musical entertainment, there will be a contest to find the best-prepared trompo (vertical rotisserie).
It’s worth going to see so many taco stands together, in a safe space already verified by the Municipal Civil Protection Directorate so that the merchants comply with the corresponding regulations – all have fire extinguishers and first aid kits – in order to safeguard the integrity of those who attend this event.
