Elements of the Mexican Navy (Semar) conducted a medical evacuation of a 64-year-old foreign woman experiencing respiratory problems while aboard a yacht near Socorro Island.
According to the official report from the Fourteenth Naval Zone, the emergency was addressed Friday morning after a distress call was received from the vessel carrying the patient, who was experiencing shortness of breath and suspected acute pulmonary edema.
In response, personnel from the Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) deployed a Defender-class vessel from Socorro Island, carrying naval medical personnel to conduct the initial medical assessment.
Following the examination, the specialists determined that the woman required urgent specialized medical attention, and her aeromedical evacuation was coordinated to the city of La Paz, Baja California Sur, where she was transferred to a hospital.
The Mexican Navy (Semar) emphasized that this action is part of its ongoing operations to safeguard human life at sea, as well as to provide support to the national and international maritime community transiting through Mexican waters.
