During the early hours of Monday, May 4th, in the communities of San Diego and Chapopote Chico, in the municipalities of Tantoyuca and Chalma, located in the northern part of the state of Veracruz, the burning of vehicles belonging to a soft drink company was reported.

The vehicles were hijacked and then set on fire, blocking roads, as confirmed by the Governor of Veracruz during a press conference.

“It was just reported at the security meeting that some people hijacked some trucks and burned them. The Attorney General’s Office and the Ministry of Public Security are already on the case. It seems that these people moved to Hidalgo, because it’s near Chalma, but it’s being addressed.”

According to the governor, so far, those involved have not revealed the motive for setting the vehicles on fire near Chalma, in the northern part of the state.

“I don’t know their objective, but it’s wrong, it’s wrong. If they have a grievance, if they have a protest, they can’t do these things. They’re breaking the law. It’s a federal crime. Kidnapping is a crime punishable by jail time, and so is extortion. I don’t know what they’re trying to achieve.”
