Approximately 40 crates, each containing 12 beers, were looted from a train car Monday morning when individuals managed to break the seals and throw the beer onto the ground as the train moved through Piedras Negras.
Public Security officers were alerted to the incident after residents of the area near the railroad tracks, in both the Los Espejos and Villa de Fuente neighborhoods, witnessed the train robbery.
Preliminary information indicates that at least two individuals climbed onto the train car, cut several seals on the doors, and knocked over an entire row of 16-ounce Modelo Especial beers.
However, upon noticing the arrival of the police, the individuals managed to flee, abandoning their loot of nearly 500 beers about 150 meters from the railroad crossing in the Los Sabinitos area of the Los Espejos neighborhood.
No arrests have been reported so far, despite the search operation carried out by the Municipal Public Security force.
The case was taken over by Ferrocarriles Mexicanos (Ferromex), whose personnel secured the cargo to apply the insurance policy and report the incident to federal authorities.
It should be noted that evidence of possible previous looting was found in the area, such as plastic coverings containing thick copper cables used for electrical supply between railcars, as well as other cargo seals.
