On a ranch located in the municipality of Emiliano Zapata, Tabasco, the Mexican Army and Air Force seized an aircraft carrying more than half a ton of cocaine.
A statement reported that, in accordance with the Law for the Protection of Mexican Airspace, Army and Air Force personnel seized an illicit aircraft and its cargo on May 10, 2026, in the aforementioned municipality.
It detailed that the detection of the small plane resulted from the continuous airspace surveillance conducted by the National Center for Airspace Surveillance and Protection (CENAVI) and the ongoing intelligence sharing among members of the Regional Interoperability Conference of Latin American and Caribbean countries.
“As a result of this international cooperation mechanism, the Guatemalan Air Force confirmed the detection of a suspicious aircraft track heading towards Mexican territory from Central America. Two Embraer 145 aircraft and two T-6C+ aircraft from the Mexican Air Force (FAM) were activated for surveillance, tracking, and approach operations to intercept the illicit flight,” the agency explained.
” It was reported that, as part of joint operations between the Army and Air Force, the Alert Situation Force (Fu.S.A.) of the 10th Military Region (Mérida, Yucatán) was activated, comprised of a Mexican Air Force B-412 helicopter. This force traveled from Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, to the town of Miguel Hidalgo, in the municipality of Emiliano Zapata, Tabasco, where they located and seized a single-engine, fixed-wing light aircraft. Inside the aircraft were 536 packages of a white powder with characteristics of cocaine, weighing approximately 636 kilograms. This operation resulted in an estimated economic blow to organized crime of 131.6 million pesos.
The seized items were turned over to the Attorney General’s Office in Tenosique, Tabasco, for further investigation, forensic analysis, and to determine their legal status.
