The health department indicated that at the end of the first week of May, a woman was confirmed to have COVID-19 in the state, representing the first official case of 2026.
It should be noted that on this same date last year, the state had accumulated eight positive cases, reflecting a significant decrease in the circulation of the virus.
This single case in Yucatán adds to the seven confirmed infections in Mexico during that period. Jalisco led the list with three, followed by Nuevo León, the State of Mexico, Hidalgo, and Yucatán, with one case each.
During 2025, Yucatán accumulated 139 COVID-19 infections, a lower figure than the 280 reported in 2024.
Nationwide, 279 confirmed cases have been recorded so far: 150 women and 129 men.
In contrast, seasonal influenza continues to be more prevalent in Yucatán, with 389 cases confirmed between November 2025 and the present, representing 8.3% of the national total.
The predominant subtype in the Peninsula is AH1N1, the same strain that has historically caused the most severe cases of influenza in Mexico.
