Omar García Harfuch, the man once seen as the “genius” of Mexican intelligence, has just destroyed his career in less than 72 hours.
By coming out to defend the indefensible and asserting that “there were no crimes” committed by the Sinaloa government, the Secretary of Security has gone from being a technical police officer to a human shield. Today, his international prestige is politically dead.
Harfuch’s defense of Rubén Rocha Moya has landed him in a dead end.
There are only two options:
Option A (Incompetence): If he truly didn’t know that the Sinaloa cabinet was working for “Los Chapitos,” then Mexican intelligence is a joke compared to the DEA.
Option B (Complicity): If he knew and lied to protect them, then Harfuch has gone from being the Secretary of Security to the cartel’s official spokesperson.
In either case, the country loses. WASHINGTON’S VETO: THE BRIDGE THAT SHATTERED.
Harfuch was the only link that gave the United States “peace of mind”; they saw him as a clean cop.
That bridge broke.
After covering up for the two officials who are now confessing their ties to drug trafficking in Arizona and Europe, the Pentagon and the DEA have blacklisted him.
Who is going to share secret intelligence with the man who defends criminals?
Harfuch has just been isolated from the world.
THE SACRIFICED PAWN: BURNING HIS PRESTIGE FOR 48 HOURS.
The most revealing thing is how they used him.
The National Palace knew that defending Rocha Moya would come at a very high cost, and instead of burning the presidential image, they sent their best piece to immolate himself in front of the cameras. They squandered the “Super Cop” moniker to buy a couple of days off a narco-governor in freefall.
It was an unnecessary sacrifice that left national security without its main figurehead.
The myth is over.
Harfuch will not go down in history as the man who cleaned up Mexico, but as the official who handed over his badge to cover up the capture of a state.
